Overview : The DOLPHIN special school & centre started with 3 intellectually impaired Children in the year 2004 at Thiilai Nagar town of Thiruchirapalli District. The motto of this special school cum therapeutic centre is to cater therapeutic rehabilitation, mobility and other day care services for the needy Children with intellectual impairments. , Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, Autism, Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and learning Disabilities.  
Earlier DOLPHIN had been concentrating only on the therapeutic rehabilitation aspects and catered services on the need based for the Special Children. In the year 2008 it has launched a Day care cum Special School as a value added program for the welfare of Special kids to provide wider attention on their education and daily living skills promotion. Now it has expanded its services with more in built themes and dreamt rehabilitation interventions. DOLPHIN has a very good potential staff team that consists of 18 teaching and Non-teaching staff. At present 62 (48 boys and 14 girls) Special kids are getting educational and therapeutic support in DOLPHIN, in which 52 special kids receives education and therapy support, whereas 12 are coming down to receive therapy support alone in the evening shift at our School. we are planning to expand our School activities in more places through promoting few branches as well as getting a own space for us Since there is a huge demand for enrolling more number of Special kids and right now DOLPHIN is functioning in the rented building. We also encourage college students with social work, Rehabilitation and nursing disciplines to do their field work analysis, block placement assignments, dissertations and Research studies with regards to Children with Mental retardation, Autism, ADHD and Learning Disabilities. Apart from this we are closely working with the local Government Departments, DDWO (District Disability Welfare Office) and other related Voluntary Organizations towards the welfare of Special kids. Similarly networking with Hospitals, Research institutions, Colleges, Schools to do awareness campaigns and other outreach services in and around Thiruchirapalli District of Tamil Nadu, India. Admission & Application Process : We welcome new applications throughout the academic year; however, most students commence their studies at the beginning of the academic year in June. DOLPHIN follows 3 steps in the application process and giving admission;  
Step1: Formal meeting with the Director. The child and parents would be assessed with a general terms to meet out the basic expected support from the parents which is essential for the Child development. Step2: Discussion and general assessment, Psychological assessment is done by the registered psychologist of DOLPHIN. Step3: Special educators or specialized therapist workout the individualized educational or therapeutic rehabilitation plan. The meantime home based training plan will also be draw for the parents with their presence. After all these formal progressive process the student is admitted and informed of the joining date. All these process will be carried in a 3 days’ time so that the Special kids learn and enjoy with lot of fun with the team of DOLPHIN. Day School & therapy shifts DOLPHIN is setup to fulfill the two major needs of Special kids. It is act as a Special School and therapeutic Centre.  
 
The Day School activity starts by 9.30 am and ends at 3.30pm, whereas the exclusive therapeutic sessions are divided into two shifts; 1. First batch timing - 4.00pm to 5.30pm 2. Second batch timing - 5.30pm to 7.00pm Vacation plans Learning and fun mixed together in the living life of kids; DOLPHIN understood it very well and provides more number of opportunities for the Special kids to learn a lot and enjoy with their Parents, Siblings, School friends and teachers.  
 
DOLPHIN conducts frequent excursions, picnics and concept day camps & workshop for the Special kids to learn & enjoy along with their Parents& Siblings. There will be a lot of excitement in the month of May every year among the Special kids studying at DOLPHIN, because there will be a full-month Special summer camp organized, exclusively for them at DOLPHIN campus to exhibit their talents and perform in each category of camp events. Special kids are always rocking! Curriculum components DOLPHIN gives priority to learn and get self-esteem and self –actualization, we want our students to be as successful as possible at school; but success in school is not just about academic disciplines. It is also about knowing how to respect, self-disciplined and how to get along with others. Our IEP indirectly holds the conceptualization of self learning, behavior management and problem solving skills, we treated it has a stepping up program. It reflects among the Children in the School activities as well as at home.  
 
Functional Academic DOLPHIN’s functional Academic Curriculum is specially designed to assess and teach skills which allow each Special kid to succeed at home, school and in the community. Our functional academic curriculum involves components such as reading and writing according to the expected outcome of Special kids. We also provide general academic curriculum instruction, based on state government standards. Pre-vocational training It is designed to prepare students for the Vocational Training Program. The adult students receive experiences in a wide range of tasks and campus jobs such as housekeeping, storages of kitchen items, cleaning, post cover making, Artificial garlands & art and graft gift items making and Gardening. Each student participating with total interest and have as specific objectives necessary for attaining proficiency based on their individual education program (IEP). Daily living skills DOLPHIN School focuses on making every moment a learning opportunity. It teaches Self-help skills like brushing teeth, bathing, Toileting, Dress wearing, Washing of cloths, eating independently, grooming, and doing simple physical exercises. A team of qualified staffs of DOLPHIN determine the best method to teach students how to perform various self-help skills. Multi-sensory stimulation The multi-sensory environment room (MSE) is well designed program that allows students to engage in a variety of different visual with light effect helps their concentration and stimulate visual power. It helps the students to have relaxation, enjoyment and independent sensory exploration. The students have leisure and break options that often request throughout their day. Parental counseling & Training DOLPHIN believes parents as one of the partner in the child’s IE curriculum development program. Parallel training has been given to parents to carry out the recommended IE plans independently at home. Quarterly assessment and IEP reports have been submitted to parents to enable them understand their child’s performances. Monthly parent-teachers meet, individual counseling, periodical desk review with the Director and external seminars & conferences definitely help them acquire more confidence and assist their child in perfection at all level of therapeutic interventions. Co-Curricular components DOLPHIN provides the following event as part of School activities, it involves all the kids somehow to do specially design extra-Curricular program which is either preferred by them or make them to participate with the limitations of impairments that they have in nature. DOLPHIN is very keen to upgrade the therapeutic helping skills of parents and siblings through giving opportunities to take part in the designed training, meeting and outlet programs.
