History : The DOLPHIN Special activities was setup with only 3 intellectually impaired Children in the year 2004 in a small rented building at Thillai Nagar area of Thiruchirapalli. The existing Director Mrs. Praveena Carmel had started to give extra coaching educational support for these Children on her leisure time every day in the evening. The number of students increased gradually in the first two years and it has given more confident to the existing Director of DOLPHIN to expand the Special School & therapeutic Rehabilitation services so as to help lot of needy Special kids to overcome their rehabilitation constraints with the use of appropriate training devices and field professionals supports. 
To maintain and execute quality of services to the needy intellectual impaired children was the fore most objective of DOLPHIN, for which it has developed concrete & unique Individualized educational plan and therapeutic rehabilitation plan mechanism which is not practiced by other Institutions. The innovatively created above said plans have been well taken by the field expertise and has gained a lot of appreciation. In the year 2007, the DOLPHIN School services decided to get legal entity and approvals under the developed norms & systems by the State Government. The DOLPHIN school activities started to run under the umbrella of ACE (Action on Community Empowerment) which is a non-profitable Organization registered under Public Trust Act. ACE was initiated by the existing Director of DOLPHIN in the year 2007 on the interest of few field professionals’ friends and parents. The DOLPHIN (Special school & Centre) is the first initiation and promotion of ACE in Thiruchirapalli. Now it is one of the leading Special School & therapeutic training Centre catering its expanded services to the Children with intellectual impairments, Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, Autism, Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and learning Disabilities. It has got a good track of records and earned name for its excellent services specially designed for the Children with intellectual impairments. At present 65 Special children are supported by DOLPHIN in their Special education, Daily living skill training, Rehabilitation mobility training and other therapeutic training. DOLPHIN School was started with one special teacher and 3 Special Children and now it has grown to accommodate 10 field professionals, 13 trained staff at the 1:2 student’s ratio which is not practiced mostly in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. As we believe a school flourishes when its teachers are committed to lifelong learning. All DOLPHIN teachers and staff are trained periodically and sent to outside agencies to gain more technical information related to teaching & therapy disciplines. Teachers have scheduled time to share ideas and teaching strat. 
A feeling of Compassion in human being can arise only if one tries to feel the pain of others. In the same way, Dolphin special school & Centre was born out in the understanding and realization of social & physical constraints faced by the Special kids and the efforts made by their parents in the society. DOLPHIN incepted in September 09, 2004 started working under the Projects umbrella of ACE on December 26, 2007. The services included at small level for three intellectually impaired Children by giving extra attention to class education. Then there was a bigger demand to include many Special children with similar extra coaching need locally, that was the way DOLPHIN grewand now majestically stands with a lot of commitments towards uplifting the life of intellectually impaired Children by delivering quality of special services. A unique feature at DOLPHIN is the 1:2 students ratio being practiced right from the beginning, it really helped the teachers to give full attention for a particular Child at all level of School activities. Montessori Method of play way teaching is the second added feature for the Special kids to learn and enjoy with total relaxation and lot of fun at DOLPHIN. DOLPHIN believes in the direct learning approaches rather fetch out information from the text book. Prioritized exposure visit plan plays major role in the IEP of each Special kid. Concept day events and exposure trip to educational based places helps the kids to grasp the concepts and ideology quickly as blinking your eyes. 5 : Strengthening extracurricular skills. DOLPHIN provides great opportunities to elicit hidden talents of Special kids and make effort to enhance their abilities to compete. 4 : Professionalism maintained at all level. We encourage the staffs to participate in training, seminars, conferences and workshops related to Disability and development which may help them upgrade the skills & knowledge for producing quality of services. DOLPHIN engages only highly qualified technical consultants for each event of Special School and not encourages it staff personnel to carry out all events from their hand alone. Prior attention brings out quality performances as aimed. 3 : Functional assessment and therapy trainings. DOLPHIN follows individualized functional academic and therapeutic mobility rehabilitation techniques with modified manner that created by its own professional team. It differs from other general models followed by many. We are transparent to produce all necessary certificates and documents to smoothen your philanthropic support for our Special kids. It allows the local countrymen and foreign volunteers those who are really interested to extend their support for the Special kids of DOLPHIN.
